Bathroom Destruction

By | January 8, 2007

Our ceiling fell in the bathroom. Sarah and I were watching a home improvement show, and we were inspired to clean up our bathroom. The ceiling in the bathroom had a few rust spots, from water condensing on the paint (not bathroom paint). We used some bleach cleaner to get the ceiling nice and white again, and we were scrubbing the tiles until we started feeling weird from the bleach. The main problem and reason for the rust spots on our ceiling is the fact that there is no ventilation. We have a window in the shower that we open when we’re in there, but there is nothing to pull the steam out of the shower.

Anyway, like I said before, part of our ceiling fell. Sarah was scrubbing the ceiling by the shower head and she pushed right through. I think last summer we had noticed water was coming through the ceiling from upstairs, there was a leak in our upstairs’ neighbors bath drain. It was fixed, but they had to cut through the ceiling to get to the pipes. They patched the ceiling up, but did a poor job, they basically just glued some new sheetrock up there. Well it fell yesterday. The problem I am having is whether to call our landlord or not. It’s something I can fix, but I’m not sure whether it is our (landlord/me) responsibility or the condo’s. If we don’t get it fixed soon the whole thing (at least a 4×4 sheet) looks like it’s going to come down. The guy that lived at our house before didn’t care about the place, so now we pay for it. Ahh the joys of renting.
