Today is a particularly rainy day. Tough waking up in the morning on a day like this. I don’t mind the rain so much except when commuting to work. The walk from Herald Square to the office is brutal when it is storming like it was this morning. I took advantage of the situation and was able to learn a few things walking to work this morning.
- Look for scaffolding, scaffolding good (fortunately I found a good run of scaffold on 35th, between 6th and 5th)
- Watch out for umbrellas (a passing umbrella could take out your eye!)
- When waiting for the light to change on a corner, stand about 3 feet back to avoid the splash from cars/buses driving by.
- Take it easy, instead of darting pass people just walk with the crowd, nice and calm, especially when underneath the temporary shelter of scaffolding.
Armed with those tips, I was able to navigate to the office without any major issues. My umbrella is in one piece, my feet were a little wet, but water dries. When I left home this morning I was so upset about having to walk through the rain, dreading the commute. After taking it easy this morning and walking along a reasonable pace instead of killing myself, I think I won’t dread the commute so much. Also, for this time of year, always remember, April showers bring May flowers!
Well, at least you’re being a little more optimistic about it. Does this mean no more grouchy raining mornings?
